Dept Number/Name: 4-5218-000 / Student Services College Division: Sar/Man-Academic Advising Salary Plan: Administrative Job Code/Title: 9510 / Assistant Director Hiring Salary/Salary Range:$50,000 – $55,000 Position Number: 00022741 ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee provides high quality bachelor’s and graduate-level education and scholarly activity in a personalized learning community that prepares successful leaders and responsible citizens. POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Student Support will oversee the Offices of Orientation and Learning Support Services (Tutoring), as well as direct and lead Parent & Family Programs and New Student Connections areas, consistent with One USF, and in collaboration with other units across Student Success. All of these areas contribute to the academic support and student success of students at the Sarasota-Manatee campus. Specifically, the role will assist students with adjustment and transition into college, support underserved (i.e. non-traditional, first-generation, etc.) students, and ensure students feel connected to USF. Additionally, the AD will supervise student employees providing tutoring services, students serving as Community (Orientation) Leaders, and a Coordinator of Student Support. The Assistant Director will provide training, direction, and leadership to each of these areas. The AD will develop and oversee programs, activities and outreach initiatives designed to support students and contribute to successful degree progression, as well as serve on the Persistence Committee. The Assistant Director will report directly to the Assistant Regional Vice Chancellor of Student Success, while serving as a critical member of the campus Student Success team. RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the Office of Orientation and work collaboratively with staff to coordinate new student orientation programs including, but not limited to First-Year, Transfer, Family/Guest, and online orientation. Develop partnerships, relationships, and collaborations with Academic Affairs and Student Success areas, OneUSF, and the community to facilitate and enhance orientation programs. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate students who serve as Community Leader Coordinators and Community Leaders. Create and facilitate training curriculum for the Community Leader team including diversity and inclusivity, facilitation and communication skills, teamwork, campus resources, and customer service. Implement and oversee peer mentor transition program led by the Community Leaders, as well as a peer advising initiative in collaboration with the Office of Academic Advising. Serve as the first point of contact regarding communication surrounding Orientation. Direct and lead Parent & Family Programs and New Student Connections areas, consistent with One USF. Offer events and programming, such as during Friends & Family Weekend, on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, as well as develop content for CampusESP, the platform used to communicate with families and guests. Collaborate with colleagues across all three USF campuses to align existing campus programs, services, and initiatives with OneUSF and to create new OneUSF programs, services, and initiatives. Assist with department goals and collaborate on department wide events and initiatives. Supervise Coordinator of Student Support, including providing regular support, feedback, training, and evaluation. Oversee the Academic Success Center (Tutoring) and supervise student tutors. Manage operations of tutoring services, including tutoring schedule, subject areas and online website. Identify tutoring spaces on campus for student tutors to meet with students. Address and resolve student issues and concerns with the Academic Success Center. Ensure an excellent customer service experience for students utilizing services. Serve on the Persistence Committee, while also developing and overseeing programs, activities and outreach initiatives designed to support students and contribute to successful persistence, retention, and degree progression. Oversee the campus Food Pantry, a service created to address food insecurity by providing supplemental food to students in need. Maintain inventory of goods and items, while fulfilling any food pantry requests from students. Maintain relationship with local food bank that sponsors the pantry. Performs other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum of 4 years of related exempt level experience including 2 years of supervisory experience. PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Affairs, or related field and three year of experience supervising student staff.
