Responsibilities
Cash Collecting Agent/Accounting Clerk II will be required to work rotating shifts (am, pm, midnights, weekends, holidays and overtime if necessary). Work schedules can fluctuate from week to week and tours and days off can be different. The Cash Collecting Agent/Accounting Clerk II is an operational role that services vending machines at PATH train stations. ACIIs are required to climb stairs and carry heavy items, including money and coin boxes.
Under the direct supervision of the Revenue Unit Supervisor, Assistant Revenue Unit Supervisor and/or the Accounting Clerk III, the Accounting Clerk II is responsible for collecting revenue from all cash machines and station vaults system-wide. Incumbents are also responsible for: all readings and receipts associated with revenues collected; all record keeping for monies collected; creating written reports of any incidents as needed; emptying ticket accepting turnstiles and the opening of fare collecting machines for servicing by Machine Repairmen. The Accounting Clerk II is responsible for all Coin Room equipment entrusted to him/her (e.g., keys, tools, barrels, seals).
The Accounting Clerk II position works various shifts, including early mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays. Accounting Clerk II employees may be required to work overtime on days off and when needed. The Accounting Clerk II job requires daily exposure to station or train environments and exposure to varying weather conditions.
NOTE: The foregoing is not exclusive and is not meant to describe all those duties which may be assigned to an Accounting Clerk II pursuant to the agreement between PATH and the IBT – Clerical Group.
Qualifications
High School or Equivalency Diploma is required.
Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a cash handling role, working in a demanding environment that requires interaction with the public
Demonstrated mathematical ability, along with customer service skills, and the ability to clearly communicate with the colleagues and the general public with courtesy and professionalism
Must possess ability to work rotating shifts (am, pm, midnight, weekends, holidays, and overtime); ability to work in outdoor and industrial station environments that are subject to inclement weather, direct contact with the public, and outside areas during active train service.
Must be able to lift 50lbs, push 300+ lbs, bend, and stand for long periods of time.
Desired
Prefer some college course work in mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
General knowledge of the stations and rail services provided by PATH.
Familiarity with the accounting procedures and security practices.
Excellent written and communication skills
Demonstrate high integrity and conscientiousness

Qualifications for this position will be based on:
Performance Appraisal: An acceptable rating by the candidate’s immediate supervisor including a critical review of the candidate’s performance, disciplinary and attendance record. An unsatisfactory appraisal, attendance record, and/or pending disciplinary action will disqualify a candidate from this promotional opportunity.
Written Examination: Will consist of test modules designed to measure factors related to the Accounting Clerk II position such as: basic mathematical knowledge, attention to detail, and conscientiousness.
Oral Examination: Will consist of technical questions designed to measure such factors as interest in the position, personal qualifications for this position, job related skills, judgment, problem solving, and interpersonal / communication skills.
Practical Examination: Will measure abilities related to performing the physical job components of the job such as lifting and carrying a bag of coin weighing up to 50 lbs, pushing a barrel weighing up to 300 lbs, and lifting this barrel up and down stairs with the assistance of another Accounting Clerk II. Carrying a bag filled with bill/coin boxes/stock/money up and down stairs.
Make-Up Examination Policy: Accepted candidates who receive notification of a test date, reporting time, and test location are expected to appear for testing. Make-up examinations are provided when a candidate’s absence is due to: Short-term military service; Official work assignment; Mandatory religious observance; Jury duty service; Subpoenaed court appearance; Marriage; Hospitalization, Recovery from surgery, Birth of one’s Child; Serious medical emergency of an immediate family member; Death of an immediate family member; Absence due to Injury-On-Duty/Long-Term sickness; Medical complications due to a chronic illness; Documented traffic/public transportation delays; Vacation scheduled prior to announcement of an evaluation that would result in documented significant financial loss if cancelled. Those feeling COVID19 like symptoms or otherwise sick on the day of the assessment should not appear for testing. Follow the make-up procedure explaining your situation and you will be granted a make-up test.
Candidates with a valid request for a make-up examination must do so in writing to the attention of the Supervisor, Assessment Services Unit to AssessmentServices@panynj.gov. All make-up requests must include relevant supporting documentation and are subject to verification. Only requests postmarked no more than five (5) working days after the scheduled test date will be considered.
Note that candidates who qualify on the evaluation process after a Final Notice has been published will be inserted onto the Final Notice on the date of their qualification. Placements made prior to the make-up candidate’s full qualification will remain.
All candidates requesting a make-up examination must be available for testing within 60 days of the original Final Notice publication date, with the exception of those on military service who submit a make-up request and supporting documentation within 30 business days of their return from duty. Candidates not available for testing within this timeframe are no longer eligible for make-up examinations. Any candidate who is out due to Injury-On-Duty/Long-Term sickness during a scheduled examination (i.e., written, oral, or practical) must appear for that examination unless they provide proof from either their personal physician or the Office of Medical Services that their condition, which prevents them from performing the functions of their job also prevents them from participating in the scheduled examination. Candidates who do not provide proof within five (5) working days after the scheduled test date will no longer be eligible for make-up examinations.
