SCA is seeking a Community Crew Coordinator who will work with Sealaska Corporation and the Prince of Wales Ranger District on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. This position will entail working with local youth on trail and other service projects. On some trips, you will be asked to lead overnight camping/service trips. The expectation is that during normal work weeks local participants will return home to their own housing at night.

Seaalaska is an Alaska Native Corporation with lands, shareholders, and shareholders descendants on Prince of Wales Island (POW), an island in the Southeast Alaska Archipelago. POW is the fourth-largest island in the United States and the total population is less than 6,000 people. Mountain peaks, waterways, and shorelines abound. To get to POW, you must take a ferry or small plane.

Job Duties Include:

Coordinator of 2-4 youth/young adult participants ensuring rules and regulations are followed, and maintaining safety standards and enforcing the use of personal protective equipment.
The coordinator will help plan projects and lead participants in the implementation of on-the-ground work, aligned with Sealaska and Forest Service staff direction.
This position will coordinate the Alaskan Youth Stewards POW program for ten weeks with two week of orientation/training before the scheduled YCC/TRAYLS program and one week after the program to document accomplishments in a final report.

The work week will be 5 days, 8 hrs per day, and will include evening and weekend work. Conditions require working outside in wet, cool, rainy weather and long periods of standing each day. Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with youth/young adults
Experience working outdoors
Leadership skills
Communication skills
Interest in collaborative work with multiple partner
Interest/experience in rural Alaska

Compensation amounts:

$1,500 – RT travel allowance (depending on location)
$800 – weekly living allowance (equivalent of $20 per hour at 40 hours per week)
$1,000 – duty related travel (for work related trips from Ketchikan to POW and back)

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.

All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes

Please note that this position is NOT eligible for an AmeriCorps education award
