Please note that this is a seasonal position.

Incumbent performs duties at the Passenger Depot related to serving the public with baggage related issues including customer service, loading baggage and performing maintenance, janitorial and landscaping duties.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Six months of verifiable front-line customer service experience is required. One year of experience in the travel or tourism industry is preferred. Basic knowledge of accounting procedures to handle money, make change, and balance revenue and reports is required. Ability to operate a computerized reservation system is preferred. Skill in operating a 10-key machine is required. Must be people oriented and have excellent communication skills. Must be able to use judgment in problem solving situations. Knowledge of Railroad terminology, passenger and baggage tariffs, services, schedules, and ticketing procedures is preferred. Previous experience operating a forklift is preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Alaska Railroad Corporation Benefits The following briefly describes the main benefits available to regular employees of the Alaska Railroad Corporation. Actual benefits differ by bargaining unit. Retirement Plans ARRC Pension Plan – Participation is mandatory. You are automatically enrolled in the Plan when you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Employees contribute 9% of their Earnings on a pre-tax basis. The Railroad is exempt from participation in Social Security; however, Medicare Tax is withheld. Participants vest with 5 years of eligible Vesting Service which entitles one to receive a pension benefit at retirement age. A new tier of benefits was added for new hires in the ARW and TCU represented unions and for non-represented employees July 1, 2015. Tier 1 Description Normal Retirement Age is age 62. The formula for a monthly Normal Retirement Benefit is the sum of: 2% x Final Average Earnings x all Credited Service, PLUS 0.5% x Final Average Earnings x Credited Service earned after 2005 and after completing 10 years of Credited Service. (Final Average Earnings are computed from the 3 highest consecutive years of Earnings.) Tier 2 Description Normal Retirement Age is age 65. The formula for a monthly Normal Retirement Benefits is 2% x Final Average Earnings x all Credited Service. Early retirement, survivor and disability benefits are available for vested participants, although the benefit levels differ for Tier 1 and Tier 2 participants. 401(k) Tax Deferred Savings Plan – Participation is optional. You may enroll once you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Depending on the bargaining unit, there may be an employer match. 457 Deferred Compensation Plan – Participation is optional for non-represented employees. Insurance and Flexible Spending Plans All plans are optional except the RR Dental Plan for bargaining unit employees. Health Insurance Plan A comprehensive health insurance plan, self-insured by the ARRC and administered by Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, with medical, prescription drug, dental, vision and hearing components. Coverage is also available for the employee’s spouse and dependent children. ARRC and the participant share the premium cost. Eligibility after 90 days for bargaining unit employees, and date of hire for non-represented employees. RR National Dental: mandatory dental-only plan for bargaining unit employees (covers dependents also). Employee paid. Life Insurance: Basic, AD&D, Supplemental and Dependent Life. Employee paid. Flexible Spending Accounts: health care and dependent care. Employee paid.
