Job Title: Tribal Child Welfare Worker

Salary/Pay Rate: $26.04, DOE
Supervisor: Social Services Director
Job Description: Provides full case management services for tribal custody cases and recruits & licenses Native families to care for children in ONC Tribal custody
Summary: Provide case management services to tribal custody cases, which includes developing relationships with parents, developing case plans and providing services to parents towards goal of reunification; finding appropriate placements for the children in custody and visiting the foster parents and children a minimum of monthly to assure child safety, assess child’s needs, and support foster parents. Arrange regular visitation of the foster child with birth parents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain case files with up to date notes of all contacts with cases
Prepare and present reports to the court on the progress of the case, ensuring court reviews are held a minimum of every six months
Complete required paperwork such as referrals, birth certificate and CIB requests, child health checkups and school records, as well as parent referrals and documentation of services
Recruit new foster families within the Bethel area: develop a recruitment plan of individual contacts as well as information to community groups and churches
Read and understand the tribal licensing standards policy and forms
Develop systems for criminal history, fingerprints, and CPS checks
Complete licensing studies of all interested families within sixty days
Prepare initial foster care training materials to train new families
Work collaboratively with the Alaska Resource Family Center and other resources to provide ongoing training to licensed foster families
Act as a Mandated Reporter for child abuse and neglect
Provide monthly activity summaries to supervisor in provided format
Meet regularly with supervisor
Perform other duties as assigned, including backup for ICWA Advocate.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent; Rural Human Services or AA degree preferred
Demonstrate experience working with people in a helping capacity
Experience working with families, children, and community service programs
Intimate knowledge of Yupik culture and lifestyle. Fluency in Yupik preferred.
Ability to carry out job responsibilities as listed
Strong written and oral communication skills
Basic computer skills
Willing to submit to criminal background check
Working Conditions: Light lifting up to 15 pounds. Occasional prolonged standing/walking, and sitting.
