Full Job Description :-
Perform duties to assist patrons and perform any range of circulation desk activities in main library lobby or at the drive up window, including material check in, check out and registration, working within the limits of prescribed routines. Uphold the Library System’s mission and values in the pursuit of all duties; respect for the individual, our organization, and the community, excellence in everything we do, and integrity in our actions, while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
Receive materials from patrons at circulation desk or drive up window, renew items as requested and appropriate, check the condition and completeness of returned materials, check materials in, assess late and damage fines responding to computerized prompts to indicate fines, explain fining procedure, collect fines from patrons, make change and credit patron’s computerized record with payment.
Process in returned materials, check hold shelf and clear drop-off boxes, check the condition and completeness of returned items and withdraw materials that require attention. Identify and segregate branch materials, receive and process materials belonging to main library collection that have been returned to branches, re-sensitize items, sort to defined cart or other location for re-shelving, and move carts to designated areas as required.
Assist patrons with the check out of materials, prepare special forms as required, access patron account, respond to computer prompts regarding account holds, lost or stolen cards, or similar messages in accordance with prescribed procedures. Respond to notices posted on patron accounts including account holds or fines. Communicate fines outstanding and related policies and procedures, and process related payments. Charge materials as checked out to patron’s account, remove security materials as required, and respond to inquiries. Refer patron to supervisor or other to resolve account problems. Notify management and communicate with patrons when they activate alarms to determine causes.
Respond to patron’s requests for new or updated library cards, explain types of cards available and related procedures and policies, review identification to ensure that it meets with requirements and prepare library card. Register patrons for and issue PC passes. Offer patrons the opportunity to register to vote and provide required forms. Print information relating to cards that are to be deleted. Ensure that required supplies are available at work station.
Balance cash register when working drive up window station as assigned.
Listen to patron inquiries and concerns and provide procedural responses or direction to appropriate staff for assistance with reference questions or unusual circulation problems.
Other duties may include, but are not limited to:
Perform or assist with any system operations, as required or directed to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions.
Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
Monitor patrons in the Library and remind them of Library policies as required to ensure that the resources of the Library are fully accessible to all patrons.
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Data entry terminal, cash register, typewriter, calculator and other common office equipment.
