ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PAYROLL, Vice President for Finance (VPF)-HR/Payroll, to lead and drive a significant integration effort of MIT’s complex and diverse HR/payroll systems and organizations. Will set the strategic direction of payroll systems, processes, service center operations, and customer service; act on and resolve complex issues related to payroll operations; supervise, train, and develop HR/Payroll staff; and oversee the development and implementation of enhancements to meet the needs of the Institute. Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field; at least seven years’ experience in financial operations, including accounting and account reconciliation; four years’ managerial experience leading accounting/financial operations teams that deliver exemplary customer service; experience with and knowledge of HR/payroll regulations, federal and state laws, and taxation; demonstrated successful experience implementing and managing change within a large, complex, and diverse organization; expert-level knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations, including those specific to research and nonprofit organizations; excellent analytical, project management, problem-solving, organizational, consultative, team building, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to drive and manage multiple priorities, projects, and team members and ensure the team’s timely delivery of all responsibilities and assignments; ability to work collaboratively and build interpersonal relationships and achieve consensus; discretion, tact, and good judgment with sensitive/confidential information; and excellent Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills. Seek a hands-on self-starter who is able to work effectively in a high-volume environment under sometimes stressful or high-pressure situations. PREFERRED: experience working with a large-scale ERP system, preferably SAP; experience with financial operations in higher education or research setting; and experience leading a payroll function.
