Examples of Duties
Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to assist the Vice, Intelligence, and Narcotics (VIN) Unit with Criminal Investigations and provide intelligence analysis for department personnel. The position may be allocated to working in the Realtime Crime Center and be required to become proficient in the RTCC technologies. Employees in this classification perform at a professional staff level and are responsible for ensuring the data analysis relevant to VIN investigations, the crime tip line, and crime intelligence analysis for the department are presented in a variety of analytic reports. The position is accountable for receiving, analyzing, and collating raw police data for the Vin Unit and department personnel. Work includes analyzing, preparing, and submitting analytical reports to the VIN Supervisor, Investigative Supervisors and Command staff as directed. Examples of Intelligence Analyst Duties:
Processes Crime Intelligence Analysis through various techniques such as:
Repeat offender and victim analysis
Criminal Profiles, which may include:
Criminal History Analysis
Link Analysis
Commodity Flow Analysis
Communication Analysis
Social Media Analysis
Assists with investigations citywide; provides technical analysis, and crime intelligence analysis.
Creates and queries software applications for intelligence data processing, analysis, and records maintenance to include in-house as well as “stand alone” programs.
Utilizes numerous software applications, databases and internet sites.
Assists with working out of the Realtime Crime Center; which includes the use of intelligence-led policing for both in-progress crimes and investigatory leads.
Analyzes and prepares reports on criminal investigations; investigates high-priority leads and performs intelligence analysis.
Prepares, submits, and disseminates analytical reports, e.g., intelligence reports, criminal profiles, investigatory analysis.
Examples of Vice, Intelligence, and Narcotics Unit Duties:
Maintains all incoming intelligence to the VIN Unit, and complete preservation of same for entry and retrieval.
Maintains complete confidentiality of all VIN intelligence and investigations through active measures.
Maintains legal liaison and case preparation for all cases filed within State and Federal courts.
Assists VIN supervisor with a variety of administrative reports for the department, finance, and accreditation.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hour work week, with some flexibility and may vary
24/7/365.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Course work in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Crime Analysis and/or Data Analysis also preferred. Two (2) years of professional level data analysis experience required with preference given to candidates with analysis experience in the Criminal Justice/Public Safety field. Equivalent combination of education, training, and crime analysis job-related experience specifically in the Criminal Justice/Public Safety field may be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
