Security Shift Supervisor
POSITION: Security Shift Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Manager Employee Health & Safety
SALARY STATUS: Salary
Position Overview:
The Security Shift Supervisor will be expected to perform all job duties of a Security Officer:
Proactively patrols assigned areas and performs all security related tasks, ensuring safety standards are maintained. Investigates suspicious activity or persons. Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Security Supervisor and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events. Responds to events of varying degrees of vulnerability, including high vulnerability such as life-threatening events, natural disasters.
Performs physical inspections of all personal belongings arriving to and departing from the facility.
Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency, non-emergency and alarm calls as assigned. Uses good judgment to safely determine the alarm cause, takes appropriate action and/or provides the proper assistance and direction in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained.
Learns applicable systems and responds to fire alarms at facilities during actual alarms and drills. Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers and Leadership to report crimes, incidents and safety related irregularities
Intercedes in disputes between individuals by using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills to diffuse potentially violent situations.
Patrols assigned areas to provide security presence. Unlocks buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance with policies; properly utilizes and maintains all issued and operated equipment. Observes activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce facility rules/regulations; alerts visitors of infractions. Assists individuals on property needing directions or information. Escorts people/property to desired destination when safety of property or individuals is a concern.
Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic on or in properties. Issue vehicle identification tags. Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.
Investigates and documents, through both written and electronic format as required, to report safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities to Security Administration, law enforcement and other appropriate agencies as determined by, department policy, or state law. Conducts annual security assessments (as assigned) of individual properties to determine possible security risks.
Ability to identify recurring security operation issues, collaborate with leadership to problem solve and develop solutions, and work with the Security Management team on implementation of change
Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management. These may include visitor escorts; special events (job fairs); inclement weather notifications and procedures; Trained or willing to train in CPR/First Responder and Hazmat Response/Spill Containment. Conducts company determined health screenings screening for all employees, vendors and visitors who enter the facility. Prints employee identification badges.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Supervise the day-to-day operations of assigned shifts and provide training and direction to subordinates.
Supervise personnel scheduling and assignments of employees assigned.
Brief the team at the beginning of their shift to update them on developments and security related concerns.
Supervises day-to-day operations as shift supervisor, conducting briefings and other supervisory functions. Ensures proper staffing and area coverage at all times; reviews department reports and provides direction for corrections. Inspects the team to ensure they have all assigned equipment ready for duty at the beginning of their shifts.
Oversees training of new Officers and provides on-going training for all Officers. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with those his/her supervision while acting as a role model. Documents subordinates’ work performance and provides positive direction and corrective action as needed.
Reviews the performance of Security Officers and Assistant Supervisors. Performs employee evaluations, takes corrective action, and disciplines security staff as needed. Takes a lead role in the coordination and security of special events, programs and large gatherings as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Associate’s degree which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved OR
Technical college certificate in a criminal justice or related field, OR
Five years of general security, military or law enforcement
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
In addition to Security Officer Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, the Security Shift Supervisor will be expected to:
Knowledge of Security Operations and Procedure
Knowledge of Safety Management
Ability to motivate a team
Ability to make rational decisions under pressure

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees must be capable of standing and walking for most of their shift.
